A tale as old as time: it’s late, we haven’t eaten, and all we have is ramen noodles. The only problem? We’re hungry again just a few hours later! What if I told you that by pairing the right foods together, in what dietitian Abbey Sharp calls “The Hunger-Crushing Combo,” you can stay full longer? By combining two or more hunger-crushing nutrients, protein, fiber, and healthy fats, you can feel satisfied longer. Here’s how it works!

Combine Protein + Fiber

Protein and fiber are a powerful duo. Protein helps build muscles and keeps you energized, while fiber takes longer to digest, keeping you full for longer. Great sources of fiber include whole-grain bread, cereals, fruits, and vegetables. Try adding boiled eggs and veggies to your ramen noodles for a hunger-crushing combo.

Add Healthy Fats

Healthy fats make meals extra satisfying and delicious. Nuts, avocados, and olive oil are all great sources of good fats that help keep you full. For a satisfying snack, try an apple drizzled with peanut butter.

Think Balanced Snacks

Explore different snacks by pairing foods from various groups. Greek yogurt with berries is a tasty, filling option rich in protein and fiber. Another great combo is popcorn mixed with pistachios and jerky, which can help keep you full and energized.

Load Up on Fiber-Rich Vegetables

Fiber-rich vegetables like carrots, broccoli, and spinach are perfect for adding volume to your meals. They help fill you up without weighing you down. Add them to soups, salads, or wraps to make your meals more satisfying and nutritious.

Incorporating these hunger-crushing combos into your meals and snacks can transform your eating habits and block those pesky cravings. The next time you reach for a late-night snack or a quick meal, remember that a few simple additions can turn it into a more balanced and satisfying experience.
