THRU Project is proud to announce that San Antonio's new city manager, Erik Walsh, will deliver the keynote address at the organization's gala on September 28, 2019.
"This is our biggest night of the year," says THRU Project CEO, Elaine Andries Hartle. "It's our chance to share our mission with our donors and raise enough funds for all our annual programming, especially our housing program, which is proving to be a very successful model."
Started in January 2018, THRU Project's Next Step Housing Program has already graduated five former foster youth to independence. Independence means the youth are financially stable and living on their own. THRU Project's program requires that housing participants must have a job and/or be enrolled in school, they must attend all THRU Project Life Skills sessions, which the organization provides monthly for all its participants as well as youth considering joining the program, and finally, they must save money each month. "We help them set up a savings account. It's theirs, not ours, but we require a deposit each month to remain eligible for our program" says THRU Project Program Director, Chris Lopez. "They grow that savings until they graduate from the program. We believe that it's at that point that they understand the life skills they need to succeed."
"We are very excited about the opportunity to share THRU Project's mission with Mr. Walsh and really get these kids on his radar," says Andries Hartle, "especially the housing issues facing youth who exit the Texas Foster Care System."
The THRU Project Sparkles & Spurs Gala is September 8, 2019 at 6:30pm at the San Antonio Country Club located at 4100 N New Braunfels Ave, San Antonio, TX 78209. Tickets and sponsorships can be purchased online or by calling (210) 852-0220.
