The THRU Project was begun in July of 2011 as a service project of Unity of San Antonio. Unity of San Antonio was made aware of the plight of youth aging out of foster care in San Antonio and the woeful number of social workers assigned to assist these youth. The critical need for a permanent organization that will provide volunteers to be the connection from the youth to the services provided by social agencies became the reality that is the THRU Project.

With offices opening in mid-October of 2011 and agency partnerships in hand, the THRU Project began partnering former foster youth with their new mentors in October 2011.
